Whereas the workshop at Tufts University in August 2023 focused on a third personal exploration of the questions that are at the heart of the CSAS models of caring intelligence, the follow-up workshop at Dhulikhel, Nepal, December 4th-12th 2023, allowed an expanded CSAS core team to explore and engage with Buddhist ethics, epistemology, and meditation in a way that also encouraged first and, as recently suggested by Thomas Metzinger, zero-personal perspectives.
Through formal presentations, round table discussions, and meditation sessions with Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, Khenpo Pema Namgyal, and Dr. Julia Stenzel, the group contemplated and discussed the feasibility of “bodhisattva AI” as an alignment target and explored the dynamics of care and intelligence with a view to formulating a multiple year research program.
